What is the Sustainability South East Directory?
The aim of the Directory is to provide information to the community, business and industry in South-East NSW on recycling and waste reduction services. Its aim is to promote 'reduce', 'reuse' and 'recycling' as alternative options to buying new goods created with raw or virgin resources.
With a growing focus on the health of the environment and the need to create a more sustainable environment, the community is looking for more effective options to manage waste. Businesses have responded to the demand to recycle or reuse rather than sending material to landfill, which the Directory aims to highlight. This Directory provides a direct link between the community and these businesses.
Background
The Sustainability South East Directory is an initiative of the SERRROC group (South East Resource Recovery Regional Organisation of Councils). The SERRROC group is a NSW Government funded body that considers it appropriate to the current and future needs of local communities to research, investigate and facilitate resolution of waste and resource management issues in the South East NSW region.
The SERRROC group is a voluntary collaboration of the following South-East NSW Councils:
- Bega Valley
- Shire Council
- Bombala Shire Council
- Boorowa Shire Council
- Cooma-Monaro Shire Council
- Eurobodalla Council
- Harden Shire Council
- Palerang Council
- Queanbeyan City Council
- Snowy River Shire Council
- Upper Lachlan Shire Council
- Yass Valley Council
- Young Shire Council
The range of reuse and waste reduction businesses listed in the Sustainability South East Directory predominantly lie within these Council areas. If you would like register or update a business go to 'Submit Listing' on the main page.
(Due to the large population size, the potential range of businesses and the geographic location of the ACT in relation to the SERRROC Councils, businesses within the ACT are encouraged to list).
Definitions
Reduce - basically means 'to cut down'. Therefore one may purchase or consume less to begin with, and they might buy good quality items that minimise the need for replacement.
Reuse - means to use a product in its original form more than once, also includes repairing, refurbishing, and recovering items to prolong their useful life.
Recycle - means to recover and reprocess materials that might otherwise become waste into usable products for sale or reuse.
Information for Businesses
The Sustainability South East Directory provides FREE listings to businesses, and is able to do so through funding by the SERRROC and support by your local Council. However, in order for a business to qualify for an approved listing, the following conditions must be met:
- businesses must be part of the reduce, reuse, repair or recycling industry (also includes rent, hire, loan)
- businesses must be based in South-East NSW (including the ACT) in the following Council areas:
Bega Valley, Bombala Shire, Boorowa Shire, Cooma-Monaro Shire, Eurobodalla Shire, Harden Shire, Palerang, Queanbeyan City, Snowy River Shire, Upper Lachlan Shire, Yass Valley, and Young Shire
- the final listing approval will be given by the SERRROC
Adding or Editing Businesses
To add a business listing, click on 'Submit Listing' on the main page
To change your business details eg contact details click on 'Login Now' on the main page
To add or alter the categories you are listed in, click on 'Login Now' on the main page, then 'Add Listing'
To remove your data, click on 'Login Now' on the main page, then click 'Delete Account'
(All data that is submitted via the website will be sent to the Project Manager for review before the listing is posted)
